When The Smiles Don't Come But The Magic Still Happens

Not every session goes to plan—and that’s one of the things I’ve come to love most about photographing families.

During a recent Easter mini session with the beautiful Laver family, we had everything prepped for a sweet, joy-filled shoot: nuetral toned colour scheme, which I might add Tina nailed with her choice of outfits for the kids, matching fun easter props, beautiful natural light, and a gorgeous blue eyed baby's ready to go. But these little ones? had other ideas. No matter what Mum or I did, those smiles just weren’t happening, and you know what? That’s okay.

Because in the midst of the stubborn expressions and serious faces, something really special happened. We captured timeless, classic moments—soft glances, little hands holding tightly, and sibling cuddles, and quiet expressions that tell a different but equally beautiful story. There’s something powerful about honesty in photos. These weren’t fake smiles or forced poses—they were real.

Mum ended up loving the entire gallery so much, she purchased every image. It was a reminder that even when the session doesn’t go how we imagined, there’s still beauty to be found.

So if your little one isn’t in the mood to perform, don’t worry. I’ve got you. My job is to capture your family as they are, in all their perfectly imperfect magic—and those are often the moments we treasure most. 💛
